Three homeless men have been killed after gunmen opened fire on them at the Post Office Bus Stop along Adeola Odeku Street in Victoria Island, Lagos State.
The shooting occurred on Sunday, 01 November, when two unidentified attackers reportedly arrived on motorcycles and fired at the victims as they slept.
The three men were among about 10 homeless people who had been using the bus stop as a place to sleep.
A resident alerted the police after the shooting, prompting the deployment of an anti-crime patrol team. Officers who arrived at the scene found the bodies of the three men.
Preliminary investigations reportedly showed that CCTV cameras captured the attackers arriving on motorcycles and approaching the group. The footage allegedly showed them inspecting some of the individuals before opening fire.
Lagos State Police Command spokesperson, Abimbola Adebisi, confirmed the incident and said the bodies had been taken to Mainland Hospital in Yaba for autopsy.
She said investigations were ongoing to establish the identities of the victims, locate their relatives and determine why they were targeted.
The attack has raised concerns about the safety of homeless people who spend nights in public spaces as police continue efforts to identify and arrest those responsible.
