The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has released the final list of candidates cleared to contest the presidential election scheduled for January 2027.
The list contains candidates and their running mates from 18 political parties participating in the presidential and National Assembly elections.
According to the document signed by the Secretary to the Commission, Rose Oriaran-Anthony, President Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress, APC, will seek re-election with Vice President Kashim Shettima again as his running mate.
The African Democratic Congress, ADC, is fielding former Vice President Atiku Abubakar as its presidential candidate, with former Minister and Rivers State governor, Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, listed as his running mate.
Other major entries on the final list include Peter Gregory Obi of the National Democratic Congress, NDC, who is running alongside Musa Mohammed Rabiu Kwankwaso.
The Labour Party, LP, is presenting Sunday Chibuzo Okereke and Hajja Bintu Konto as its presidential and vice-presidential candidates, respectively.
The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, is fielding Sandy Ojang Onor for president, with Umaru Babangida as his running mate.
Other parties and candidates
INEC also cleared candidates from several other political parties for the election.
They include Rufai Adekunle Omo-Aje of the AA, with Shehu Hussaini as his running mate; Aliyu Abbas-Bin of the ADP, paired with Chinazam Ike; and Kabiru Yusuf of the APP, who is running alongside Peace Egobia Ofordile.
The African Action Congress, AAC, is presenting Omoyele Sowore and Haruna Garba Magashi, while the APM has Oluseyi Abiodun Makinde as its presidential candidate and Musa Lawal Daura as his running mate.
The BP is fielding Sunday Adenuga alongside Usman Turaki Mustapha.
Other candidates listed by the Commission include Moses Olusoji Adebisi of the DLA, with Nafisat Usaku Abubakar as his running mate, and Ada Elizabeth Fredrick Okwori of the National Democratic Party, NDP, paired with Uchenna Anthony Chukwuemeka.
The National Rescue Movement, NRM, is presenting Nkem Esther Okereke and Nasir Muhammed Sulaiman.
Donald Duke is listed as the presidential candidate of the PRP, with Kabiru Rabiu as his running mate.
The Social Democratic Party, SDP, is fielding Adewole Ebenezer Adebayo and Usman Muhammed Bugaje.
Peter Ada Agada of the Young Progressives Party, YPP, will run alongside Patience Ndidi Key, while the Zenith Labour Party, ZLP, is presenting Daniel Daberechukwu Nwanyanwu and Hassan Khalid.
Women and candidates’ profiles
INEC’s final list shows two female presidential candidates, Ada Elizabeth Fredrick Okwori of the NDP and Nkem Esther Okereke of the NRM.
Four female candidates were also listed as vice-presidential running mates across the participating political parties.
According to the document, none of the presidential or vice-presidential candidates declared any form of disability.
The candidates are between 35 and 80 years old, with educational qualifications ranging from First School Leaving Certificates and secondary school credentials to university degrees and doctoral qualifications.
The publication of the final list formally identifies the candidates and running mates presented by the 18 political parties for the January 2027 presidential election.
