The National Chairman of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Senator David Mark, has called on the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) to caution the Federal Government and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) against actions that could undermine the credibility of Nigeria’s 2027 general elections.
Mark appealed on Thursday in Abuja while receiving an ECOWAS pre-election fact-finding mission led by former Sierra Leone Vice-President, Victor Bockarie Foe.
He raised concerns about INEC’s level of preparedness and alleged interference in key state institutions, warning that any compromise of the electoral process could lead to political instability.
The former Senate President urged the regional organization to engage early and press for an election that is free, fair and transparent. He said the credibility of Nigeria’s electoral process was essential to maintaining peace and stability both in the country and across West Africa.
Responding, Foe assured Mark that the mission would communicate the ADC’s concerns, along with views gathered from other stakeholders, to ECOWAS.
The visit forms part of the regional body’s engagement with stakeholders ahead of Nigeria’s 2027 general elections.
