China’s ruling Communist Party has introduced stricter internal controls aimed at strengthening loyalty among its members and increasing supervision of government officials.
The measures include broader education on the history of the party and the country, closer monitoring of officials throughout their careers and tougher checks on information they are required to disclose about their personal affairs, the state-run Xinhua news agency reported on Sunday.
Under the new rules, authorities will investigate cases where the assets and spending of officials’ families appear inconsistent with their legitimate income.
The party will also step up routine monitoring of business interests involving senior officials’ spouses, children and children’s partners, as part of efforts to strengthen oversight of potential conflicts of interest.
The measures form part of a wider push by the party to reinforce internal discipline, ensure political loyalty and tighten control over the conduct of its officials.
