Nollywood actors and filmmakers have thrown their support behind veteran Yoruba actor Taiwo Hassan, popularly known as Ogogo, after his daughters made a public appeal for urgent medical assistance as he battles stage-four cancer.
The family’s appeal has drawn attention from several prominent figures in the Nigerian film industry, who are now helping to connect the actor’s family with cancer specialists, hospitals and advanced treatment centres.
Actor and filmmaker Femi Adebayo was among the first to amplify the family’s call for help. In a post on X on Monday, he urged medical professionals and organizations with expertise in oncology to come forward.
Adebayo stressed that the family was not asking the public for money. Instead, they are looking for doctors and medical facilities capable of reviewing Hassan’s medical records and determining whether further treatment options are available.
He appealed to anyone with contacts in the oncology field, whether in Nigeria or abroad, to reach out to the family as soon as possible.
Actress Toyin Abraham also joined the campaign on Tuesday, sharing a video featuring Hassan’s daughters on Instagram and asking anyone who could assist to contact the family or reach her.
Daughters seek medical intervention
The renewed campaign followed emotional messages from Hassan’s daughters, Lima and Kira Taiwo, who turned to social media on Monday to seek help for their father.
They disclosed that the 66-year-old actor is battling stage-four cancer and appealed to Nigerians, well-wishers and medical professionals with experience in cancer care to help identify a specialist or facility that could take over his treatment.
Lima said her father’s condition had worsened and claimed that some hospitals were no longer willing to continue treating him.
Kira also said her father was no longer able to undergo chemotherapy at the hospital where he had been receiving treatment.
Both women made it clear that their immediate concern was finding appropriate medical care rather than raising funds.
Their appeal has since prompted colleagues, fans and other members of the entertainment industry to search for possible treatment options and specialist intervention.
A career spanning decades
Hassan, widely recognized by his stage name Ogogo, is one of the veteran figures in Yoruba-language cinema.
His career in the Nigerian film industry spans more than four decades, during which he has appeared in more than 300 movies and built a reputation as one of the most recognizable faces in Nollywood.
The industry’s latest show of solidarity reflects the strong connection Hassan has built with colleagues and audiences throughout his long career.
For now, his daughters are asking that the focus remain on finding qualified medical professionals and a treatment centre capable of giving the veteran actor another chance.
