The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has cautioned corps members and the public against a fraudulent message circulating on social media that falsely claims a special redeployment application window has been opened.
In a statement shared on its verified X (formerly Twitter) account on Friday, the scheme described the notice as false and urged Nigerians to ignore it.
The fabricated message, titled “URGENT NOTICE: NYSC REDEPLOYMENT,” was directed at parents and guardians and claimed that corps members could apply for redeployment due to security concerns, health issues and the prevailing situation in the country.
It further instructed interested corps members to submit applications quickly to guarantee their safety, proper posting and uninterrupted completion of the mandatory service year.
The fake notice also provided two telephone numbers, encouraging applicants to make immediate contact while insisting that supporting documents would be required and that the process would comply with NYSC procedures.
Reacting to the circulation of the message, the NYSC Headquarters issued a disclaimer through its official X account, @officialnyscng, branding the notice as fake and placing a prominent “FAKE NEWS” stamp across the document to prevent members of the public from being deceived.
The agency did not reveal who was responsible for producing or distributing the fraudulent notice.
The NYSC noted that this is not the first attempt by scammers to exploit the redeployment process to defraud corps members and their families.
The scheme reiterated that all deployment and redeployment requests are processed only through its official online portal and designated NYSC offices. It stressed that no individual or unofficial phone contact has been authorized to facilitate redeployment applications on its behalf.
Corps members and the general public were advised to verify all information relating to NYSC activities through the scheme’s official website and verified social media platforms before responding to any announcement or making any payment.
