Samsung Electronics has officially unveiled its first multi-folding smartphone, the Galaxy Z TriFold, which features two hinges and three display panels to transform from a pocketable smartphone into an expansive tablet. The launch is Samsung’s move to solidify its dominance and push the boundaries of the rapidly evolving foldable market against intensifying competition from rivals like Huawei.
The Galaxy Z TriFold represents Samsung’s most advanced foldable engineering to date. The device uses a dual-hinge, tri-fold design that folds inward to protect the main display.
When fully opened, it boasts a massive 10-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X main screen, making it the largest display ever integrated into a Samsung smartphone. This size is nearly 25% larger than the current Galaxy Z Fold models.
When closed, the device resembles a thick smartphone, featuring a 6.5-inch cover display. It measures approximately 12.9mm when folded.
Samsung emphasized the refinement of its Armor FlexHinge technology, with two differently sized hinges working together. The main display is tested to survive 200,000 multi-folding cycles, equivalent to folding it 100 times a day for five years.
It is powered by the customized Snapdragon 8 Elite Mobile Platform for Galaxy and features a powerful camera system, including a 200MP main sensor.
It incorporates the largest battery Samsung has ever put in a foldable, a 5,600mAh three-cell system designed for balanced power delivery across the three panels.
The 10-inch expanded screen is designed to blur the line between a phone and a full tablet or workstation. Users can run up to three portrait-sized apps side-by-side simultaneously without interruption, offering a significant productivity boost over existing dual-fold devices.
The TriFold is the first Samsung phone to feature standalone Samsung DeX, allowing it to operate a desktop-like experience with up to four workspaces running multiple apps directly on the large display.
The device heavily leverages Galaxy AI features and includes a six-month trial of Google AI Pro for advanced, multimodal assistance.
The device is priced at approximately 3.59 million Korean Won (around $2,440 USD). Sales begin in South Korea on December 12, 2025.
It will launch in China, Taiwan, Singapore, and the UAE before the end of 2025, with a U.S. release expected in the first quarter of 2026.
Analysts view the Galaxy Z TriFold as a technology showcase designed to reinforce Samsung’s leadership and act as a catalyst for explosive growth in the ultra-premium foldable segment, rather than as a mass-market volume driver at this stage.
