A Ukrainian woman wanted in connection with a bomb attack that injured a prominent businessman in Monaco has reportedly been found dead near Ukraine’s capital, Kyiv.
According to Ukrainian news outlet Ukrainska Pravda, which cited unnamed law enforcement sources, the body of the 39-year-old suspect was discovered late Monday night with gunshot wounds.
The woman had been identified by international law enforcement authorities as the principal suspect in last week’s explosion in Monaco that left Ukrainian-born businessman Vadym Yermolaiev, his partner and their son injured.
Before her reported death, the suspect had been the subject of an Interpol Red Notice issued at the request of authorities in Monaco. She was being sought over allegations including attempted murder, the use of an explosive device in a public place and participation in a criminal conspiracy.
Investigators in Monaco had earlier disclosed that the suspect allegedly fled the principality on foot into neighbouring France before travelling by road through several European countries, including Italy, and eventually reaching Germany.
Ukrainska Pravda also reported that Ukrainian authorities had detained two individuals in connection with the investigation. According to the publication, one of those arrested is reportedly an officer of Ukraine’s military intelligence agency, while the second is a former law enforcement official.
However, Ukrainian police and the country’s military intelligence agency had not publicly confirmed the arrests at the time of reporting.
The circumstances surrounding the suspect’s reported death remain unclear, and authorities have yet to issue an official statement on the incident.
The businessman targeted in the bombing, Vadym Yermolaiev, was born in Ukraine but later acquired Cypriot citizenship. He was placed under Ukrainian sanctions in 2023 over allegations linked to business activities in Russian-occupied Crimea.
Investigations by Monaco and Ukrainian authorities into the bombing and the suspect’s reported death are ongoing.
