The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has warned Nigerians against a fake website falsely claiming that nationwide online voter registration is currently underway.
INEC issued the warning in a public notice on Saturday, identifying the website as pvc-inecnigeria-org.blogspot.com and describing its claims as false.
The platform had announced what it called a “Final Phase of Nationwide Online Voter Card Registration”, claiming that registration would run from September 28 to October 27, 2026.
It also purported to offer services including updating voter registration details, transferring registration to another polling unit, and replacing damaged or lost Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs).
The website further claimed that voter registration and PVC delivery were free.
However, INEC said the website has no connection with the commission and warned Nigerians against clicking on the link or submitting their personal information through the platform.
“Members of the public are strongly advised not to click on the link or submit any personal information on the website, as doing so may expose them to the risk of having their sensitive personal data harvested or misused,” the commission said in the notice posted on X.
INEC clarified that the voter registration exercise ended on July 26, 2026, dismissing claims that a new nationwide online registration exercise was currently taking place through the website.
“The Commission further wishes to clarify that the voter registration exercise closed on 26th July 2026,” it said.
“Any information suggesting that a new nationwide online voter registration exercise is currently ongoing through the above mentioned website is false.”
The electoral commission urged Nigerians to remain vigilant and verify information about voter registration and other electoral activities through its official communication channels.
INEC also advised members of the public to avoid sharing sensitive personal information with unauthorized websites claiming to provide electoral services.
