At least 30 people have reportedly been killed after heavily armed attackers invaded a community in Kaduna State during a late-night raid, residents have said.
The attack occurred in Naridon village, located in Kauru Local Government Area, where the assailants reportedly stormed the community under the cover of darkness, shooting indiscriminately and setting homes ablaze.
Local sources said women, children and elderly residents were among those killed during the assault. Several other people were also injured, while many families fled into nearby bushes to escape the violence.
Community leaders disclosed that a number of houses were destroyed by fire after the attackers moved through the village, leaving widespread destruction in their wake.
Residents said some victims were killed inside their homes, while others were attacked as they attempted to flee. Bodies were later recovered and moved to a mortuary.
The motive for the attack remains unclear, and no group has claimed responsibility.
Witnesses also alleged that security personnel arrived in the community several hours after the attackers had fled.
The latest incident adds to the growing insecurity across parts of northwestern and north-central Nigeria, where armed gangs and other criminal groups have continued to launch deadly attacks on rural communities, often resulting in mass casualties, abductions and the destruction of property.
Kaduna remains one of the states repeatedly affected by violent attacks despite ongoing military and security operations aimed at restoring peace in the region.
Authorities had yet to issue an official casualty figure at the time of filing this report.
