Suspected gunmen reportedly attacked an office of the Nigeria Immigration Service in Ogbomoso, Oyo State, on Tuesday night, overpowering officers on duty and allegedly making away with firearms.
The attack was said to have occurred at about 10:00 p.m. at the immigration facility located along the Ogbomoso-Ilorin Expressway near an NNPC filling station.
According to sources familiar with the incident, the armed assailants stormed the office while commercial activities were still ongoing at the nearby Ayanyan Cattle Market.
The attackers reportedly subdued officers on duty before seizing their weapons. However, the exact number and type of firearms taken during the operation could not be immediately confirmed.
Witnesses said the gunmen fled the scene under the cover of darkness after carrying out the attack.
The incident has raised fresh concerns about the security of government facilities in Oyo State, coming amid increasing reports of kidnappings, attacks and other violent crimes in parts of the state.
When contacted, spokesperson for the Oyo State Police Command, DSP Olayinka Ayanlade, said he had not yet received an official briefing on the incident.
“I have not been briefed on the incident at this time. I will provide updates as soon as the necessary information becomes available,” he said.
As of the time of filing this report, neither the police nor the immigration service had issued an official statement confirming the attack or providing details on any arrests.
Security agencies were reportedly working to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident and track down those responsible.
The reported attack comes amid heightened security concerns in Oyo State following recent incidents of kidnappings and assaults on public institutions and individuals across different parts of the state.
