The global gospel music community is mourning the loss of one of its most influential voices. American gospel music legend Ron Kenoly has died at the age of 81, his longtime music director confirmed. Kenoly passed away on Tuesday, 03 February 2026, according to a statement released via his official Instagram account.
Renowned for his powerful worship leadership and timeless songs, Kenoly’s impact stretched far beyond the United States, touching congregations and worshippers around the world. His music, characterized by vibrant praise, heartfelt devotion, and congregational energy, helped define contemporary worship music for generations.
In a heartfelt tribute, his long-time music director, Bruno Miranda, described Kenoly not as an entertainer but as a true worship leader whose life was devoted to guiding others into heartfelt praise. “Doc was very intentional about one thing: he was never an artist, never an entertainer. He was a worship leader,” Miranda said.
Kenoly’s catalogue includes beloved worship anthems that became staples in churches globally, such as Ancient of Days, Lift Him Up, Jesus Is Alive, Majesty, and Anointing.
