Hollywood veteran and 24 star Kiefer Sutherland was reportedly taken into custody by the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) late Tuesday night, 13 January 2026, following an alleged physical altercation with a ride-share driver.
Details surrounding the incident are still emerging, but initial reports suggest the confrontation began during a late-night trip in the West Hollywood area.
According to sources familiar with the matter, the dispute reportedly escalated after a disagreement over the ride’s destination or route.
The ride-share driver, whose identity has not been released, claimed that Sutherland became verbally abusive before allegedly “making physical contact” with him. The driver subsequently pulled over and contacted emergency services.
Officers arriving at the scene observed the driver with visible, though non-life-threatening, injuries. Sutherland was reportedly detained at the scene without significant incident and transported to a nearby station for processing.
While formal charges have not been finalized, the actor is reportedly being investigated for misdemeanor battery.
This is not the first time the Emmy-winning actor has faced legal challenges related to his conduct.
| Year | Incident | Outcome |
| 2007 | DUI Arrest (Los Angeles) | Served 48 days in jail. |
| 2009 | Headbutting incident with fashion designer Jack McCollough | Charges later dropped after a private resolution. |
| 2026 | Current Ride-Share Allegation | Pending Investigation |
Sutherland has recently been active in the music industry, touring with his country-rock band, and was rumored to be in talks for a highly anticipated revival of the 24 franchise. Industry analysts suggest that this latest legal entanglement could potentially delay production schedules or impact sponsorship agreements if the charges are pursued.
As of Wednesday afternoon, representatives for Kiefer Sutherland have not issued an official comment. A spokesperson for the ride-share company stated:
“We are aware of the deeply concerning report involving one of our driver-partners. Safety is our top priority, and we are cooperating fully with the LAPD in their investigation of this incident.”
