Nigeria’s Falconets are unrelenting in their pursuit to defend their status as African Games gold medalists, deservedly defeating Uganda 2-0 in a scintillating semifinal clash on Monday, 18 March at the Cape Coast Stadium. In the 2nd half of the match, substitutes were introduced and ultimately became the match-winners for Nigeria. The first half was a nail-biting affair, with both teams struggling to wear down the other. The Falconets controlled possession for much of the period, however, were unable to clinch a window past the determined Ugandan defence. In the 71st minute, a double substitution brought fresh legs onto the field, with Okah Adaobi replacing Olusola Shobowale and Chiamaka Okwuchukwu coming on for Motunrayo Ezekiel. The changes paid immediate dividends as Adaobi broke the deadlock barely three minutes after entering the fray. The Falconets refused to settle for a one-goal lead and pressed on fervently to a second.
