Two passengers were abducted after armed men reportedly blocked a major road in Barkin Ladi Local Government Area of Plateau State.
The incident occurred at about 8:40pm on Friday along the Bokkos-Barkin Ladi highway, according to counter-insurgency publication Zagazola Makama.
Following a distress call, troops of Sector 4, Operation Enduring Peace, were deployed to the area to respond to the attack.
The attackers were said to have mounted a roadblock and stopped a vehicle driven by Kollog Dakwan. They allegedly forced two passengers out of the vehicle before escaping into nearby bushland.
The troops immediately began a search of the surrounding area in an attempt to locate the victims and track down the assailants.
According to Zagazola Makama, the initial search did not establish contact with the suspected kidnappers.
Security personnel have continued efforts to locate the abducted passengers and identify those behind the attack.
Patrols have also reportedly been increased along the Bokkos-Barkin Ladi route and neighbouring communities as part of measures to deter further attacks and protect road users.
Security agencies are expected to work with residents and other local sources to gather information that could help establish the whereabouts of the victims and the movements of the attackers.
The incident has renewed security concerns along the route, where authorities are seeking to strengthen patrols and prevent criminal groups from using surrounding bush areas as escape routes.
