Argentina overturned a second-half deficit to defeat England 2-1 on Wednesday, securing a place in the FIFA World Cup final for the second consecutive tournament.
England broke the deadlock in the 55th minute through Anthony Gordon and looked on course for a famous victory before Argentina mounted a late comeback.
Midfielder Enzo Fernández restored parity in the 85th minute, setting up a dramatic finish. Deep into stoppage time, Lautaro Martínez headed home from a Lionel Messi cross to complete the turnaround and send the defending champions into Sunday’s final.
Argentina will now face Spain in the title decider as they seek to retain the World Cup crown they won in 2022. England, meanwhile, exit the tournament after falling just short of a first World Cup final appearance since 1966.
