Resident doctors at the University College Hospital (UCH), Ibadan, have suspended their three-day warning strike and directed members to return to work from 8 a.m. on Thursday.
The Association of Resident Doctors (ARD), UCH, announced the decision in a memo made available to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Ibadan on Thursday.
The memo was jointly signed by the association’s President, Dr Uthman Adedeji, and General Secretary, Dr Mary Awodiji.
The association said the strike had ended following resolutions reached at its emergency general meeting held on October 8. Members were instructed to return to their respective duty posts and continue providing services.
It added that further updates would be communicated to members within the timelines set by the association.
The doctors began the three-day warning strike on Monday in protest against persistent electricity failures and severe water shortages around the College of Medicine axis of the hospital.
Their demands include the immediate restoration of electricity to the affected area, urgent repairs to faulty circuit breakers to provide backup power, and a reliable electricity supply across all parts of the hospital.
Despite suspending the warning strike, the association has given UCH management seven days, from October 12 to October 19, to address its demands.
The doctors warned that they could embark on an indefinite strike if the issues remained unresolved after the ultimatum expires.
