Despite France’s resurgence, England regained control in the closing stages.
After Djed Spence was brought down inside the penalty area, Bukayo Saka calmly converted the resulting spot-kick in the 87th minute to complete his hat-trick and restore England’s two-goal cushion at 5-3.
France refused to surrender.
Ballon d’Or holder Ousmane Dembélé scored deep into stoppage time to narrow the gap once again and make it 5-4, setting up a tense finish.
However, England sealed victory moments later when substitute Jude Bellingham finished off a late attack in the 98th minute to complete a remarkable 6-4 triumph.

The victory gave England third place at the tournament, their highest World Cup finish in six decades.
