Gunmen have abducted the headmaster of Nomadic Basic School, Igbojaye, in Budo Aare, Itesiwaju Local Government Area of Oyo State, and are demanding ₦30 million for his release.
The victim, 60-year-old Kolawale Mathew Owoade, popularly known as Onaiye, was reportedly kidnapped on Saturday evening while returning from his farm.
A family member said the abductors later contacted relatives using the victim’s mobile phone and demanded ₦30 million as ransom.
According to the family, a search party recovered the victim’s abandoned motorcycle in a nearby bush on Sunday morning, but there was no sign of him.
Relatives have appealed to security agencies, including the Nigerian Army, Nigeria Police Force, Department of State Services, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Amotekun Corps, local hunters and vigilantes, to intensify efforts to secure his release.
The incident has also drawn concern from members of the local education community, who expressed worry over the safety of teachers and other residents in the area.
Confirming the abduction, the spokesperson for the Oyo State Police Command, CSP Olayinka Ayanlade, said the victim was kidnapped while at his farm in Budo Aare.
He added that security operatives have launched efforts to rescue him safely and apprehend those responsible for the abduction.
