The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has reopened its National Identification Number (NIN) alignment service, allowing eligible candidates to resolve inconsistencies between their examination records and details held by the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC).
The board announced the reopening on Friday, October 16, 2026, through its official X account, @jamb_hq, and urged applicants to follow the prescribed procedure carefully.
JAMB described the window as a one-time opportunity, warning that submitting an application does not guarantee approval, as all requests will undergo verification.
The board advised candidates to correct any errors in their NIN records through NIMC before seeking to align their information with their JAMB profiles.
Candidates were also urged to review every field thoroughly and include all necessary corrections in a single application, rather than risk submitting incomplete or inaccurate information.
The discrepancies may involve names, dates of birth and other personal details, subject to the fields permitted under the alignment exercise.
How candidates can apply
JAMB said the application procedure, eligible fields, verification requirements and other conditions are explained in a special episode of its video guide, JAMB Explained, released alongside the announcement.
Applicants are expected to watch the official guide and follow the instructions provided for accessing the service, submitting corrections and completing any required verification.
Before applying, candidates should ensure that changes made to their NIMC records have been fully updated and reflected in their NIN information.
They should also prepare supporting documents that correspond with their corrected details, where required. These may include a birth certificate, affidavit, certificate of local government origin or updated NIN slip, depending on the nature of the correction.
Candidates should confirm the specific documents, eligible fields, application method and any applicable fees through JAMB’s official instructions rather than relying on unofficial guidance.
After submitting an application, applicants should monitor their JAMB profiles and registered contact details for updates and wait for formal confirmation of approval.
Board cautions against careless submissions
The examination body stressed that applications would be assessed before approval and could be rejected if they failed to meet the stipulated requirements.
Candidates were therefore advised against rushing the process or assuming that corrections would automatically be accepted.
JAMB also urged applicants to rely on its official website, e-Facility platform and verified communication channels for accurate information, while avoiding unauthorized agents.
The reopening provides another opportunity for eligible candidates to ensure that their personal information is consistent across the records used in the tertiary admission process.
Candidates seeking to use the service can find the announcement and accompanying video by searching for the post titled “The NIN alignment service is here!” on the official @jamb_hq X account.
The board’s central instruction remains that candidates must correct their NIN records with NIMC first, check all details carefully and submit their JAMB alignment applications in accordance with the official guidelines.
