The Oyo State Police Command has arrested 10 people suspected of involvement in the illegal trade in human body parts, recovering several items believed to be human remains and traditional charms during raids on their alleged hideouts.
The arrests followed months of intelligence gathering and surveillance by operatives attached to the command’s monitoring unit, according to the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Olayinka Ayanlade.
Ayanlade disclosed the development in a statement issued to journalists in Ibadan on Saturday.
Suspects arrested in Iseyin, Saki
According to the police spokesman, the suspects were apprehended at different locations in Iseyin and Saki, following information gathered during the investigation.
Police operatives subsequently searched the locations linked to the suspects and recovered a number of exhibits.
Among the items listed by the command were:
- One suspected human heart
- Suspected human flesh
- Pieces of a suspected human skull
- Various charms
The police said the recovered materials have been preserved and will undergo forensic examination as investigators work to establish their origin and intended use.
Investigation continues
Ayanlade said the arrested suspects were cooperating with investigators as the command seeks to determine how the suspected human remains were obtained and whether others were involved in the alleged operation.
He added that detectives were continuing efforts to identify and apprehend additional members of the suspected network.
The Commissioner of Police in Oyo State, Abimbola Olugbenga, commended the officers involved in the intelligence-led operation, describing their work as a demonstration of professionalism and sustained commitment to tackling serious crimes.
The command said it would continue its investigation and assured residents that it remained focused on dismantling criminal networks and protecting lives across the state.
