Former Super Eagles captain, Austin Jay-Jay Okocha, holds the record for the most successful dribbles in a single FIFA World Cup match, according to FIFA.
The Nigerian football icon completed 15 successful dribbles during Nigeria’s clash against Italy at the 1994 FIFA World Cup, setting a benchmark that remains unmatched in the tournament’s history.
FIFA’s rankings place Okocha ahead of several football greats, including Jairzinho (13 against Uruguay in 1970), Paul Gascoigne (13 against Cameroon in 1990), Eusébio (12 against Hungary in 1966), Johan Cruyff (12 against Sweden in 1974), and Diego Maradona (12 against England in 1986).
Others on the list include Reinhard Libuda, Sandro Mazzola and Jamal Musiala, who each recorded 12 successful dribbles in a World Cup match.
FIFA also noted that Lionel Messi holds the record for the most completed take-ons in World Cup history with 125, while Maradona remains the player with the most successful dribbles in a single tournament, recording 53 at the 1986 FIFA World Cup.
Widely regarded as one of Africa’s most skilful footballers, Okocha remains celebrated for his flair, creativity and exceptional dribbling ability on the global stage…
