At least six people, including two elderly residents, have been killed after suspected Boko Haram terrorists attacked Bambatsu and Ngadarma villages in Mbalala Ward of Chibok Local Government Area, Borno State.
Sources and residents said the attack occurred around 7 p.m. on Thursday, with the insurgents reportedly invading the communities before moving towards nearby Mussa community in Askira-Uba Local Government Area.
Tragically, a 12-hour-old baby girl also died during the attack after suffocating while her mother, who had just given birth and was unable to flee due to severe pain, hid inside a toilet for safety.
According to local sources, the attackers are suspected to be the same group that earlier attacked Mussa Primary and Secondary Schools in Askira-Uba on Friday.
Residents said five people were killed in Bambatsu, while one other victim was killed in Ngadarma during the coordinated assaults.
The attacks also reportedly led to the destruction of homes, food supplies, and livestock, leaving many residents displaced and in distress.
Communities in southern Borno have continued to experience sporadic insurgent attacks despite ongoing military operations against terrorist groups in the region.
