Haiti and Turkey have become the first two nations to be eliminated from the 2026 FIFA World Cup after suffering consecutive defeats in their respective group-stage matches.
Haiti crashed out of the tournament on Friday following a 3-0 defeat to Brazil at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia.
Manchester United forward Matheus Cunha scored twice, while Vinicius Junior added another as Brazil secured a convincing victory to book their place in the knockout stage.
The Caribbean side needed at least a point to keep their qualification hopes alive, but the defeat left them rooted to the bottom of Group C without a point from two matches, making it mathematically impossible to advance to the Round of 32.
Haiti had opened their World Cup campaign with a narrow 1-0 loss to Scotland before falling to the five-time world champions.
Turkey also exited the competition after a 1-0 defeat to Paraguay in a crucial Group D encounter.
Matias Galarza struck just 63 seconds into the match, scoring the only goal as Paraguay kept their qualification hopes alive while ending Turkey’s chances of progressing.
The European side had earlier lost to Australia in their opening group fixture and remain without a point after two matches, leaving them unable to qualify for the knockout stage.
Despite their elimination, Turkey will conclude their campaign with a final Group D fixture against the United States.
With Haiti and Turkey becoming the first teams to exit the tournament, the race for places in the Round of 32 continues as the group stage approaches its decisive phase.
