Nigerian security forces have rescued 15 pupils following a late-night attack on an orphanage school in Kogi State, where gunmen abducted dozens of children and a staff member.
The Federal Government confirmed that 23 children and the wife of the school proprietor were initially taken during the raid on the unregistered facility on Saturday night. Fifteen of the pupils have since recovered, while efforts are ongoing to locate the remaining victims.
Details of the rescue operation remain limited, but authorities say security agencies have intensified search efforts across surrounding areas.
The attack has renewed concerns over the vulnerability of informal and unregistered learning centres, particularly in rural communities where security presence is often thin.
While officials have not disclosed the identity of the attackers, such incidents are frequently linked to criminal gangs seeking ransom, a pattern that has persisted in parts of central and northern Nigeria.
The Federal Government reiterated its commitment to securing schools and ensuring the safe return of those still in captivity, as families await further updates.
