President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is currently meeting with governors elected on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, in what appears to be part of ongoing high-level consultations within the ruling party.
The meeting, initially scheduled for 4 p.m. at the Council Chamber, eventually commenced around 5 p.m. after it was moved to the Conference Room of the President’s Office at Aso Rock Presidential Villa.
Governors in attendance include Babagana Zulum, Hope Uzodimma, Inuwa Yahaya, Hyacinth Alia, Biodun Oyebanji, Peter Mbah, and AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, among others. Some states are represented by their deputy governors.
As of the time of filing this report, the agenda of the meeting has not been officially disclosed.
However, the gathering comes less than 24 hours after the president held an emergency closed-door meeting with the extended leadership of the Senate. Following that session, Senate Majority Leader Opeyemi Bamidele said “far-reaching decisions” had been taken on matters of urgent national importance.
While details of those decisions remain undisclosed, the back-to-back meetings have drawn attention, suggesting ongoing consultations at the highest levels of government and the ruling party.
Observers say outcomes from the meeting with APC governors could provide clearer direction on the issues currently under consideration.
