The Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA) has warned Nigerians to disregard reports and online advertisements claiming the agency is currently recruiting, describing them as fraudulent job scams designed to exploit unsuspecting members of the public.
In a public notice issued on Monday, the authority said it is not conducting any recruitment exercise, nor has it authorized any individual, organisation, or online platform to collect applications, fees, or personal information on its behalf.
“The attention of the NMDPRA has been drawn to fake recruitment advertisements circulating on social media and other channels,” the statement said. “Members of the public are advised that these claims are false and should be ignored.”
The regulator stressed that any legitimate recruitment by the authority would be transparently announced through official government channels, including its verified website and recognized national media platforms. It added that the NMDPRA does not charge fees at any stage of recruitment and does not engage third-party agents or intermediaries.
Officials warned that scammers often prey on job seekers by requesting payments for application forms, shortlisting, or training, urging Nigerians to be vigilant and avoid sharing personal or financial details with unverified sources.
The warning comes amid a broader rise in employment-related fraud across the country, as economic pressures push many job seekers to rely heavily on online opportunities. Security agencies have repeatedly cautioned that fake recruitment schemes remain one of the most common forms of cyber-enabled fraud in Nigeria.
The NMDPRA encouraged anyone who encounters suspicious recruitment claims linked to the authority to report them to law enforcement agencies.
The agency advised Nigerians to verify recruitment information directly from official sources and to treat unsolicited job offers with caution.
“Members of the public are urged to remain alert and avoid falling victim to criminal elements exploiting the name of the authority,” the statement added.
The NMDPRA reaffirmed its commitment to transparency and public accountability, noting that accurate information about its activities will always be communicated through its official platforms.
