The boxing world and the Nigerian-British community will gather in London tomorrow, Sunday, January 4, 2026, for the funeral of Sina Ghami and Abdul Latif “Latz” Ayodele, the two close associates of Anthony Joshua who died in a tragic road accident in Nigeria last week.
The remains of the two men were repatriated from Lagos to the United Kingdom on Friday night, following the fatal collision on the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway on December 29, 2025.
According to a statement from Boxing King Media, the Islamic funeral rites (Janaza prayers) will take place at one of the UK’s most prominent religious landmarks, the London Central Mosque at 146 Park Road, Regent’s Park, at 10:00 AM.
Family, friends, and representatives from the global boxing community are expected to attend to pay their final respects to the men described as “integral” to Joshua’s career success.
Notably, both men were pillars of the “AJ Machine” for over a decade. Sina Ghami, a North London gym owner and Joshua’s long-term strength and conditioning coach. He was the man often seen preparing Joshua in the final moments before the opening bell of his biggest fights and Abdul Latif Ayodele, known affectionately as “Latz,” he was Joshua’s personal trainer and a former semi-professional footballer. A fundraising campaign in his honor has already raised over £37,000 to construct a mosque in his memory.
The former heavyweight champion, who escaped the crash with minor physical injuries, returned to London via private jet on Friday night.
Reports suggest that while Joshua is currently recuperating at his home, he is “undecided” about attending the public mosque service. Sources close to the fighter indicate he is concerned that his presence might “create a circus” and overshadow the solemnity of the event for the grieving families.
While the families prepare for burial in London, the legal process continues in Nigeria. The driver of the Lexus SUV, Adeniyi Mobolaji Kayode (46), was arraigned on Friday at the Sagamu Magistrates’ Court on charges of causing death by dangerous driving and driving without a valid license.
His lawyer stated that the crash was a “tragic accident” potentially caused by mechanical failure (brakes). Kayode was granted bail in the sum of ₦5 million with the case adjourned until 20 January 2026.
