The Lagos State Police Command has announced the arrest of a 32-year-old man suspected of sending a series of terrifying bomb threats to several private and public schools across the state. The arrest, confirmed today, Monday, 27 January 2026, brings an end to a week of panic that had forced many institutions to evacuate and transition to remote learning.
The suspect was reportedly tracked down by the Command’s Cybercrime Unit and the Anti-Bomb Squad (EOD) following a high-tech forensic investigation into the digital footprints of the threatening messages.
The suspect reportedly used “burner” accounts and encrypted messaging apps to send the threats, claiming that explosive devices had been planted in school premises in Lekki, Ikeja, and Surulere.
Investigators traced the IP addresses and metadata back to a location in the Ikorodu axis of Lagos. While the investigation is ongoing, preliminary reports suggest the suspect may have been motivated by a “malicious intent to cause public disorder” and potentially extort school administrators.
The Police confirmed that after exhaustive sweeps of the mentioned schools, no actual explosives were discovered. They have officially declared the threats a “cruel hoax.”
Despite the arrest, the Lagos Police Command has advised schools to remain vigilant and implement the following protocols:
Access Control: Re-verify the identities of all visitors and staff at entry points.
CCTV Monitoring: Ensure all surveillance systems are operational and monitored in real-time.
Communication Channels: Maintain a direct line of communication with the nearest divisional police officer (DPO).
