The Delta State Police Command has confirmed that a total of 15 suspects are now in custody in connection with the alleged sexual assaults that occurred in Oramudu Quarters, Ozoro, in Delta State.
In an updated statement, police said the latest arrests followed a directive from the Commissioner of Police, Aina Adesola, who ordered a detailed investigation into the incident after disturbing reports and videos surfaced.
According to the statement, the CP Special Assignment Team (CP-SAT) was tasked with conducting a thorough investigation, including detailed analysis of video evidence and intelligence gathering.
The operation led to the arrest of 11 additional suspects, bringing the total number of persons currently in police custody to 15 in connection with the incident.
The police said preliminary findings show that the incident was carried out by criminal elements who took advantage of the festival environment to commit sexual violence.
The command stressed that the acts “are in no way representative of any legitimate cultural practice.”
Commissioner of Police Aina Adesola condemned the acts and reassured the public that the command remains committed to ensuring that all those involved are identified, arrested and prosecuted in accordance with the law.
Authorities have again called on members of the public, especially victims and witnesses, to come forward with credible information that could help the investigation.
The police also assured that any information provided would be treated with strict confidentiality.
The Ozoro incident has sparked widespread outrage and renewed conversations about safety at public festivals, protection of women, and accountability for sexual violence.
Observers say the case is now a major test of law enforcement’s commitment to justice and public safety in Delta State, as residents await further arrests and possible prosecutions.
