The Lagos State Government has issued Notices of Intention to Seal several markets, plazas and commercial premises in the Ikorodu axis over alleged non-compliance with environmental regulations. The enforcement action followed routine compliance inspections conducted by the Waste Investigation, Surveillance and Enforcement unit of the Lagos State Waste Management Authority (LAWMA).
Affected locations
According to a statement shared on the official social media handles of the state government on Sunday, premises served notices include:
Ferry Terminal, Ikorodu
No. 6 NBC Road, Ebute, Ikorodu
No. 7 NBC Road, Ebute, Ikorodu
Ominu Ajasa & Royal Family Premises, Ikorodu
Ladega Market, Ikorodu
Better Life Market, Ikorodu
The government granted affected occupants and business operators 72 hours to comply with environmental standards.
“All affected plazas, markets, and occupants have been granted 72 hours to comply with the notice. Failure to do so will attract appropriate enforcement actions in line with existing regulations,” the statement said.
Broader sanitation drive
The state government said the action forms part of a wider enforcement campaign aimed at strengthening compliance with environmental laws, discouraging illegal street trading and promoting proper waste management practices across Lagos.
“All activities took place within the Ikorodu axis of Lagos State. Keeping Lagos clean is a shared responsibility,” the statement added.
The latest warning comes amid intensified environmental enforcement across commercial hubs in the state. Authorities reportedly sealed the Ladipo Spare Parts Market along the Murtala Muhammed International Airport Road (Apapa–Oshodi Expressway) last Sunday over alleged repeated environmental infractions.
Officials have not ruled out further closures if operators fail to comply with sanitation and waste disposal requirements.
