A woman armed with an assault-style rifle opened fire outside the Los Angeles home of global pop star Rihanna on Sunday, sending multiple bullets toward the property and prompting a swift police response that ended with the suspect’s arrest.
According to the Los Angeles Police Department, officers responded to reports of gunfire at about 1:21 p.m. in the Beverly Hills Post Office neighborhood, a hillside residential area known for housing high-profile celebrities.
Police said a 30-year-old woman fired several rounds from inside a white Tesla parked across the street from the singer’s gated residence. At least one bullet penetrated a wall of the property, while others struck the front gate and a recreational vehicle parked in the driveway.
Authorities confirmed that Rihanna was at home at the time of the incident. No injuries were reported.
LAPD spokesperson Sgt. Jonathan de Vera said officers quickly circulated details about the suspect’s vehicle after witnesses reported that more than ten shots had been fired before the car sped away along Coldwater Canyon Drive.
Police in a helicopter soon located the vehicle and followed it to a shopping center parking lot in Sherman Oaks, where officers detained the suspect roughly 30 minutes after the initial emergency call.
“When officers took the suspect into custody, they searched the vehicle and recovered an assault rifle along with seven spent shell casings,” LAPD spokesperson Armen Arias said.
Investigators later confirmed that several bullet holes were found in the gate of the residence and in an RV parked inside the property.
The motive behind the shooting was not immediately clear, and authorities have not disclosed whether the suspect had any known connection to the singer.
Rihanna, a Grammy-winning artist and business mogul, lives at the colonial-style mansion with her longtime partner, rapper A$AP Rocky. The couple share three young children.
Police said the investigation is ongoing as detectives work to determine what led to the attack.
The incident adds to a growing number of security concerns involving celebrity homes in the Los Angeles area in recent years, prompting many high-profile residents to increase private security measures around their properties.
