Governor Hyacinth Alia has commended security agencies for the successful rescue of nine Catholic worshippers abducted from St. John Catholic Church in Ojije, Utonkon Community, Ado Local Government Area of Benue State.
The governor’s commendation was contained in a statement signed by his Technical Adviser on Media, Publicity and Strategic Communication, Mr. Solomon Iorpev, and made available to journalists on Sunday in Makurdi.
Alia expressed gratitude to God for the safe return of the worshippers, describing the development as a testament to the effectiveness of coordinated security efforts in the state.
The governor reiterated that security remains the bedrock of development and assured residents that his administration would continue to strengthen collaboration with federal security agencies and other critical stakeholders.
He stated that his government is committed to ensuring that communities live without fear and that Benue remains a land of peace, justice and coexistence.
Alia also reassured citizens that security forces and local vigilante groups would sustain joint operations aimed at combating kidnapping and preventing future occurrences.
According to the statement, the governor issued a marching order for the immediate release of the kidnapped victims during a February 13 meeting with the Idoma Traditional Council and top security officials held at the Och’Idoma Palace in Otukpo.
The rescued victims, comprising six girls and three boys, are currently receiving care and support, the governor said.
He further urged residents to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious activities to security agencies to enhance ongoing efforts to secure communities across the state.
